Sorry you are having trouble. The book is available—free—in two forms:

The Google books version is readable in your browser. Click on this link here and it should take you there. If that doesn't work, go to the Google Books page and do a search on Wilkinson The Apple and the link will come up.

If you want to download the whole book as a PDF (Adobe Acrobat) file, look on the upper right corner of that same page you have linked to. Click on the little "wheel" logo , select Download PDF from the menu, and follow the instructions. You should be good to go. Enjoy!

Thank you for posting. Yes, we do think it's a pretty good bet that there were some apple growers among that crowd!

We at Apple Journal are interested in the people who produce apples (and other crops)—their values, their opinions, what their lives are like. Our sympathies lie with the small independent farmers who operate in a society and an economy that more and more seems to be stacked against them.

This isn't free. There is no download link, and not even a preview from the looks of it. If it is how about some instructions on how to cause I'm not seeing anything. I don't like being mislead.

Got to agree with you, the whole idea of local doesn't seem to make sense, some folks want to say a 5 or 6 hour distance (within the same state) is local, but a 1 hour distance across a state line is not. Seems to me it will vary....a 2 hour drive in the east could cross multiple states, whereas in the western US 6 hours may be within the same state, but not sure that it should be considered local either. Seems to me, local is an hour or two distance from your home.
